You don’t have to go out on New Year’s Eve and fight the crowds to ring in 2016 in style. Your home game room offers the perfect backdrop for a celebration with family and friends, complete with plenty of activities to keep guests in a party mood (and off of their phones).

In our book, the ingredients for a New Year’s Eve party to remember include:

  • The right theme. What about hosting a “Sweet 16”-themed billiards tournament, complete with a bracket? Or a “Final Countdown” party with an 80s vibe? Whatever you do, have fun with it and get your guests involved in the evening’s theme.

  • A tempting menu. Your menu can match your theme (some Tab and Cool Ranch Doritos for that 80s party) or you can create a food line-up that complements the theme (high protein bites for your Sweet 16 tournament). Or tie back to the night with favorites like a countdown clock cookie cake.

  • Fun favors. Confetti is classic, but think outside of the box if you want to make an impression on your guests. Consider individual bottles of champagne or sparkling grape juice, goodie bags with “Midnight Survival Kits” and more.

  • Impressive entertainment. From mini foosball tournaments and trick shot challenges to having the right Pandora station set, think about how you’ll make sure your guests have the motivation and the energy to party until midnight and beyond.
